Tryouts for Basketball

The Howard Rangers have had tryouts for the past 3 days in the gym.  The attendance grew from 10 one day to the 25 players the next.   By the end of the tryouts only 15 will make the team.

Yesterday the team ran some drills for 3 minutes each.  One drill was a shooting drill, a dribbling drill, and finally a rebound drill.  Some of the players say the drills were difficult, some say they just ran by them like nothing.  The coaches say, “these drills are to help you make the team”.

The main lesson of tryouts is to hustle.  The coaches say, “Hustle hustle hustle. What you need to do is hustle.”  Some of the players really hustle, some just act like they don’t want to be there anymore.

I have asked questions to  both of the coaches from Howard.  They have answered my questions.

HH: How much talent do you see?
Coach Marcus: I see a good amount of talent, more potential than anything.

HH: Were nearing the end of tryouts, do you have a good idea who is on your team?
Coach G: I have a pretty good idea unless things suddenly change.

HH: What are you looking for in a good player?
Coach G: Respect and a willingness to learn and improve.

HH: What are our major strengths and weakness?
Coach G: Strengths: lots of potential.  Weakness: not enough height.

HH: Do see our our team going  to the playoffs?
Coach Marcus: Of course, but it takes determination.
