Dear Reader,

The Howard Hype is off for the until school start up again in the fall, but in the meantime we’ve left you with some summer reading.Â Here’s what you’ll find on the site.

My Bedroom

Â Â Â You step into my room and feel the rough tan carpet beneath your feet. You sense the stress over schoolwork on my mind, but only hear the calm sound of my ceiling fan pushing air around and causing the metal link to sensitively tap the light every second, for hours at a time. You smell the mixture of the lavender Febreeze fragrance and the sweetÂ smell of my Sweet Pea and Dark Kiss perfume. When you notice the purple walls and the pink curtains you may understand that my room reflects the girlishnessÂ ofÂ myself. My photo albums and bulletin boards holds onto the past, my piggy bank and calender travels to my future, Â but my halfÂ empty water bottles around keep you in the presence of my teenageÂ life. My room reflects me, so it can’t change unless i change…..

All All-Star

This year is the 60th edition of the NBA all-star Games. They had 7 different games including the amazing dunk contest. The all-star games always have aÂ special and different flare to it. And this year was just as fantastic.

The all-star game is a game where different basketball players compete in various challenges to show who is the best in a certain category. The first all-star game was in 1951 and was in Boston, Mass. This year’s all-star gameÂ had Rihanna and Kanye West for the halftime performance and Bruno Mars and Keri Hilson for the pre-show festivities.

My favorite contest is the Slam Dunk contestÂ where many different athletes do their own slam dunk attempts. Blake Griffan, JaVale McGee,Â Serge Ibaka, andÂ DeMar DeRozanÂ are all preforming in the slam dunk event. Blake Griffan was my guess to be the champion of this year’s dunking contest, and it was true.

This years all-star game was a big slam dunk. With all the great talent from Lebron to Kobe. Even Blake Griffan had his dunk over a car spectacle. The preformancesÂ byÂ Rihanna, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, and Keri Hilson were on the top of their game.

The Google t.v. is the newest enhancement to flat screen TV. This brand new spectacle lets you search the web while you watch TV. It also lets you use your smart phone as a remote, it letsÂ youÂ Â go on the Internet from your TV, and lastly lets you have tvÂ applications.

Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â I know it seems crazy but yes, they have awesomely invented a TV that lets you surf the web and watch your TV show at one time.So if you are curious about the basketball scores you can watchÂ the game and keep the scores in the background. This TV creates the perfect two timing experience.

Â Don’t even think about buying this TV without hearing that it has apps. Yes, this is true you can have the fun of Ipod apps on your flat screen TV. Apps like Pandora, google, NBA, and even Netflix and many more.

I know what you are thinking Albert Einstein has come back to make a flat screen TV. So get up go to the store and buy a smart TV before they are sold out.

Tryouts for Basketball

TheÂ HowardÂ Rangers have had tryouts for the past 3 days in the gym.Â The attendanceÂ grewÂ from 10 one day to the 25 players the next.Â Â By the end of the tryoutsÂ only 15 will make the team.

Yesterday the team ran some drillsÂ for 3 minutes each.Â Â One drill was a shooting drill, a dribbling drill,Â and finally a rebound drill.Â Some of the players say the drills were difficult, some say they just ran by them like nothing.Â The coaches say, “these drills are to help you make the team”.

The main lesson of tryouts is to hustle.Â The coaches say, “Hustle hustle hustle. What you need to do is hustle.”Â Some of the players really hustle, some just act like they don’t want to be there anymore.

I have askedÂ questions to Â both of the coaches from Howard.Â They have answered my questions.Â

HH: How much talent do youÂ see?
Coach Marcus:Â I see a good amount ofÂ talent, more potential than anything.

HH: Were nearing the end of tryouts, do you have a good idea who is on your team?
CoachÂ G:Â I have a pretty good idea unless things suddenly change.

HH: What are you looking for in a good player?
Coach G: Respect and a willingness to learn and improve.

HH: What are ourÂ major strengths and weakness?
CoachÂ G: Strengths: lots of potential. Â Weakness:Â not enough height.

HH: Do see ourÂ our team goingÂ to the playoffs?
Coach Marcus: Of course, but it takes determination.

New Year’s Resolutions

Every new year people nationwide Â plan their New Year’s resolutions. People choose a lot of things they won’t do and will do forÂ a new year. It can be something as big as joining the Army or becoming a cop and it can be as simple as brushing your teeth more, watching TV less, or trying to eat healthy. No matter what, there has to be someone with a New Year’s resolution and if you don’t have a News Year’s resolution you must be the most perfect person in the world. New Year’s resolutions can inspire you to learn more about cultures, education, and most important yourself.

Americans Â in general have a lot of New Year’s resolutions. Some are very easy and some can be the hardest to do.Â No matter how many different New Year’s resolutions Americans have, the top tenÂ are always the same:

Spend more time with family and friends
Then there’s get fit
Tame the bulge (lol)
Quit smoking
Enjoy life more
Quit drinking
Get out of debt
Learn something new
Help others
Â Most important get organized

Â These New Year’s resolutions may seem very simple, but the only reason they seem that way to you is because you’re not goingÂ through any of these things.

The whole reason for New Year’s resolution is to make a better person out of yourself, not to do something because you just want to do it. People suffer from mental illnesses; families are about to get thrown out of there houses because they don’t have theÂ money to pay the rent; and people are dying slowly because they’re addicted to smoking, alcohol, food and gambling. People might take these resolutions as a joke but other people see it as a path to a new life and and a gift to live and see another day. My personal resolution is to get closer to God, and I take that extremely seriously.

If you have something that you want to do for a new year go ahead and try it. My point is, people have New Year’s resolutions that mean something to them, and some people have things that they want to try out. Just try not to do anything insanely crazy and have a happy New Year.

Some of you may already know what Black Friday is, some of you don’t, and some of you to this day still don’t know why you get out of bed at five o’clock in the morningÂ to go to the mall… I’m here to tell you why.

Black Friday, sweet sweet Black Friday.Â This Friday that I’m talking about is a special one, many say that it is the official start ofÂ Â the Christmas shopping spree. I, for one, belief that to be true. (After spending two hours standing outside a Target at four o’clock in the morning!) Black Friday is alsoÂ a time when most companies come out with new products and your family is swamped with bills. It is also the busiest retail shopping day of the year.

AnywayÂ you might be curious where the name ” Black Friday” came from. It turns out that, in retail, the word black meansÂ being profitable whereas red means a company isÂ being unprofitable.Â So every year companies are so profitable they can make discounts and have more sales.

It’s obvious that people love Black Friday.Â The sales are great, you can stand in line early in the morning, and you get most of your Christmas shopping done before most people wake up!Â I know some people that do homeÂ renovations during that time.Â Some people can’t get enough Black Friday!

With all said and done I hope you know a little bit more aboutÂ the profitable Friday. Hopefully you can grab some sweet deals and get the Christmas list done and still have some money left over. You could probably useÂ what’s left over for shoes, games, or save it for a few more days until…

PlayStation Move Moves You

Once again they have made a video game console that senses your every movement and brings you a livelier gaming experience. The PlayStation Move is just like the Wii but the Move has a camera that you plug into your PS3.The Move is compatible with all of the PS3 games.

Â The “PlayStation eye,”which is also part of the PlayStation Move,is a full body sensing camera. It gives the player aÂ panoramic gaming experience.Â As you dodge, dive and duck, or whatever,Â the game reacts to your every move.

I bet you are asking yourself why don’t I just go get a Wii? Well, the PlayStation, the eye, and controllers (3) are $400 and the Wii is only $120. I know it’s pretty pricey but the PlayStation has aÂ larger selection of games. The controllers for the Move are a pound lighter than the Wii controllers. Also, the Move remote has a multi-color sphere as a pointer.

The Playstation and the Wii are quite different, and the common retail buyer might not know these differences. The camera for the PlayStationÂ gives youÂ a lot less griefÂ because you don’t need to stand on the ridiculous balance board that the Wii requires. The sphere controller for the PlayStation does notÂ need you to adjust your arm just toÂ place the pointer on the screen. This novel idea, createdÂ by the engineers atÂ Sony,Â designed the camera to have aÂ precise lens toÂ allow fluid game play.

If this isn’tÂ enough, the PlayStationÂ alsoÂ has a cornucopia of games. They haveÂ the best of action, adventure, interactive and even kid-friendly games for the younger gamers.Â The proof will be in the pudding. All game designers are hacking their wares to produce the best titles for the coming holidays. Will you buy the new PlayStation?
