Behind the Steel Curtain

08_Team_Photo5 The Pittsburgh Steelers started as a football team in the 1930s and many sports fans thought that they were a joke of a team until the coach Chuck Noll joined in 1969 and began coaching a dynasty team. Chuck created the legendary “Steel Curtain”  in the era of the 1970′s. It consisted of the players Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes, L.C. Greenwood, and Dwight White. The Pittsburgh Steelers are a very well-liked NFL (National Football League) team that almost every year has had the best defense. The new-school star players are Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, and Heinz Ward.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a NFL team liked by people all over the world. The head coach Mike Tomlin is a very temper-controlled coach. No matter what happens in a game Tomlin will not freak out, at the beginning and end of every game he greets players and any other person with complete respect.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have won 6 super bowls, which is the most of all the teams in the NFL. These Super Bowls are IX(9) X(10) XII(12) XIV(14) XL(40)  XLIII(43). The runner up for most Super Bowls is a tie between the Cowboys and the 49ers with 5 Super Bowl wins each. Four of the six Super Bowls the Steelers have won took place while the steel curtain  played.

If you ever go see the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh, before or after the game, make sure you make the most out of your day. If you are also a hockey fan, you should go to the Mellon Arena ice hockey rink where the Pittsburgh Penguins play. If that doesn’t fit your needs then you can go to the Petersen Entertainment Center where there is sports, bands, and plays. What about when you are hungry? You can go visit PNC park, which is close to the Allegheny River, where you can watch the Pittsburgh Pirates, then go to a restaurant not even a mile away. You can have the biggest burgers, the juiciest steaks, and the most scrumptious pizza.

This season, the Steelers have 8 wins and 3 losses. I predict that they will make to the playoffs easily. During the playoffs they will have to work harder on offense. Ben Roethlisberger will try to fight off the defense and break tackles, but as the defense breaks through he will either need to throw it away or throw it to a player. The defense is spot-on besides the fact that they get penalties nearly every play, so they will beat themselves by doing so. As long as they play with good sportsmanship they will do good.
