The substance of the rule is that if food falls on the ground, it may be safely eaten as long as it is picked up within five seconds. Is this rule actually true? Believe it or not, scientists have tested this rule! They have concluded this rule is… of course, false. According to Wikipedia, the five-second rule is a polite fiction regarding the eating of food that has fallen on the floor or ground. There are many variations of the rule. Our own Coach Lee prefers to use  the ”three second” rule (I hopeshe was kidding- lol). No matter how fast you pick it up, bacteria can attach itself to your food. So remember these things before you’re tempted to eat food off the ground:
1. A clean-looking floor isn’t necessarily clean.
A dirty floor is usually worse, but even clean looking floors contain bacteria.
2. Faster may not be fast enough.
Faster is better and less risky, but it still can pick up bacteria that can harm you.
So When in doubt… Toss it out (being in the hospital is not the way to miss school!)
