What’s the Deal with Stereotyping?

Stereotypes seem to be in every school across the world, especially in middle school.  When I was in 6th grade, I was considered  a “nobody,” people call it ”square.” Now that I’m in 8th grade, I hang with everyone.

Being popular really wasn’t that important to me when I was in 6th grade. However, this year, my whole thought process has changed and I really want to be known by people.

Do people even know what stereotyping is?  Well if you don’t, you are about to learn something.  By definition, stereotyping  is when “a commonly held public belief  is developed and placed upon specific social groups, races, or types of individuals.”

In my opinion,  I think everyone should hangout with one another and stop judging. What ever happened to Rachel’s Challenge? Rachel’s Challenge is about coming together and stopping judgement. Last year, I actually started to see this working and making changes in our school.  I feel like maybe we should be reminded, because this year, everyone seems to have forgotten.  A decade ago, Howard seemed to be  totally together with very little of this stereotyping.  Hopefully, now in 2010, we can get it together and drop these silly concepts and ideas.
