Ugh Tell Me About It!

Summer is supposed to be your time of fun and relaxation. But tell me how many times you have come back to school in August and you realize that you have  forgotten everything you learned the year before?  It can make you feel like you’re not as smart as you use to be…I know because it’s happened to me.

Throughout the years,  you may experience this time after time at the beginning of each school year.  It could impact your grades and even your self confidence.  Since Howard Middle is an ‘A’ rated school, the standards that you are held to are high. If you start the year off forgetting things and scoring poorly on your homework and exams,it could put you in danger of failing or being dropped to a lower percentile in your class.

To keep this from happening to you, why not study over your summer break?  Yeah, I know what you’re thinking-  only nerds study on vacation, but it could help put you ahead of your class. So let’s think ahead to next year.  You’ve just gotten your first report card and your grades aren’t what you want them to be and you wish you had done things differently. Why wait until then?  Do it now! Act now, by taking steps to be prepared for the upcoming semester.  In the long run, it can help you be a much better student.

Here are three tips to get you started:

1. Review:  After your weekly trip to the beach, go home and study something that you jotted down in your notebooks, maybe something in science. We learned a lot of useful things that could be useful to review such as, punit squares for 6th graders,  transparent types of light for 7th graders, and coal was a section that we studied in 8th grade for quite awhile.

2. Freestyle Writing: Write about what you’re doing over the summer: like trips to water parks, vacations, beach days, etc.  This is a good way to spend yours having fun while exercising  your brain and retrieving past knowledge.

3. Keep track of your spending:  To help freshen up your math skills, keep track of and calculate how much you’re spending when you’re out with friends.  It can help you stay on your toes with your math and keep you conscious of wasteful habits. Who knows, you just might end up with a little savings when you’re done!

I hope that you will find these tips helpful! Start reviewing this summer and you will find yourself well on your way to better grades and more confidence in the new school year!
