The History of Valentines Day♥

Alexis R Friday, February 12, 2010 2

Do you know what February the 14th is? It’s Valentines Day! A day full of love and companionship. It is traditionally a day where lovers express their love for one another by giving flowers, chocolate and Valentine cards.

We all know the two common symbols of Valentines Day, the cupid and heart. Cupid means “desire” in Latin. In Roman mythology, the Cupid is the son of Venus, goddess of love.

This holiday is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD.

You might think that you need a companion to celebrate this holiday, but you actually don’t. You can treat yourself to a spa, sit inside and watch tv, go shopping, etc.

There’s a lot of pressure on this holiday because couples go out and dine at restaurants and they won’t be the only ones! The restaurants are going to be crowded and that puts a lot of pressure on the employees. Also, when you’re out buying gifts for your companion and you don’t know what to buy. You want to buy her a ring, but it’s expensive. There’s a razor but, that seems too cheap and mean! There is one other option though, and you count on this place the most when you’re out buying a card for someone. Know what the store is yet? Hallmark! They sell every card out there. From birthday cards, wedding cards and VALENTINE cards! At Howard, they are also selling candy grams. What is this you ask? They’re just little Valentine cards attatched with lollipops! It’s cheap, delicious and a great way to show your affection! ♥

Honestly, people, it doesn’t really matter what you get, as long as you have true feelings for the person, you actually don’t have to get them anything at all. Just tell that special someone something that you always wanted to say, but couldn’t. :-)

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY FROM STEPHANIE L.!
