The Future of FCAT

I have heard certain rumors lately about the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test). One of the rumors states that they will soon be taking away the FCAT and replacing it with end of the quarter exams. The other rumor is that they will soon be making the FCAT harder than normal. I did a little research and found a lot of mixed answers.

According to Tampa Bay Online, parents think that the FCAT is to see if students are good test takers rather than to see what they learned throughout the year. State Representative Bill Heller said that they will be making a new test to be able to tell what students have learned that year. They say the test will be released in 2014.

Another thing I found on multiple websites is parents complaining about their children taking the FCAT. Most of them say they want the test taken away. One article on the Orlando Sentinel states “Do away with the FCAT!” On Gainsville.com there is a brief article about the FCAT being harder this year. The state Board of Education says they want to know more info about what we learned.

As for the future of the FCAT, only time will tell. But for now just relax study take the test and be done with it. Leave me a comment and let me know what you want to happen.
