Texas Shooting
Hi, this is Sam. For the past couple of weeks I have talked about events going on in the local and national news. This week, I will be talking about the Fort Hood military base shooting. But I don’t feel I need to give an opinion because there is not much to say except for: This is a horrible event that affected the lives of hundreds.
This whole tragedy started on November 5, 2009. It started out as a
normal day. Then at 1:34 p.m., Army physiatrist, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood military base. He killed 13 soldiers and wounded 31 before one heroic officer, Kimberly Munley, shot the psychiatrist (she had been shot as well but still managed to take him down) in the upper torso. The Major was found wounded and then arrested.
Below is the list of victims who were killed in this tragic shooting.
Pvt. Francheska Velez- She served a tour in Iraq and was 3 months pregnant.
Russell Seager- He was a nurse practitioner who was looking forward to his deployment overseas.
Spc. Jason Dean Hunt- He just got married two months ago and served three and a half years in the army.
Pfc. Michael Pearson- He quit his job and joined the army about a year ago.
Amy Krueger- She joined the army after 9/11 and arrived at Fort Hood two days before the shooting.
Aaron Thomas Nemelka- He was only 19 years of age and joined the army a year ago.
Mike Cahill- He was sixty-two years old from Spokane, Washington.
Maj. Libardo Eduardo Caraveo- Moved here from Mexico and got his PH.D. in psychology.
Staff Sgt. Justin DeCrow- He left behind a wife and a 13 year old daughter.
Capt. John Gaffaney- He was a psychiatric nurse who helped elderly victims with abuse or neglect.
Spc. Frederick Greene- He was in the 510th Engineer Company and the 20th Engineer Battalion
Lt. Col. Juanita L. Warman- She left behind two daughters and six grandchildren and was a physician’s assistant.
Spc. Kham Xiong- He was going to be deployed in January and had three children.
This is horrible event that affected the lives of many. These people will not be forgotten.
