Nintendo announced that over the course of Black Friday, they sold over 1.5 million gaming systems. These include over 900,000 DS systems and more than 600,000 Wii consoles (900,000+600,000=1.5 million! who wold have guessed?) from November 21st to November 27th. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when almost all stores have extraordinary deals on the stuff they have in the store. Nintendo seized this opportunity and and walked out with over a million of their consoles sold.
Now, remember that the DS is actually four different things. You have the original DS which came out in 2004, the DS lite that came out in 2006, the DSi that was released in 2008-2009 and the DSi XL (for those who think handhelds aren’t supposed to fit in your pocket….) came out earlier this year. To help sales, Nintendo also released the DSi in orange and bright green for a limited edition. The 25th anniversary of Super Mario red Wii came out as well. Somehow funky weird-looking colors sell.
