Meet the Buttertons

Fitzroya N Friday, February 5, 2010 2

On January 8th, a sculpture was unveiled at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in (get this) Pennsylvania.  But, this sculpture wasn’t made out of stone or ice, it was made out of one-thousand pounds of butter.  The sculpture depicts a family sitting at the dinner table with a cow. It was sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program.  The butter was donated by Land O’ Lakes in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Now, this isn’t the first year t2010 Butter Sculpturehat the Pennsylvania Farm show has been around.  This year, is the fifth year anniversary of the show, which  is kicked off with a visit from the governor, two performances by the Pennsylvania High School Rodeo Association sanctioned rodeo, and the unveiling of the sculpture made out of butter.  Each year, the sculpture  differs.   One year, the sculpture was a man standing in some crops with his dog.  Another year, it was a man from the national guard saluting a family hanging out with a cow.

The infamous butter sculpture has been crafted by Jim Victor.  Jim has crafted the sculptures at the Pennsylvania Farm show all five years.  He doesn’t just do this show, he travels all around the country creating sculptures of all different things, created from a variety of different materials. Last year, Jim sculpted a boat out of cheese for Broderfest in Hidalgo, Texas.
