On Saturday, November 7th, the Ranger Band students gathered at the Citrus Bowl to perform the “Star Spangled Banner” in front of the audience who came to see the High School Marching Band Competition. Most of the bands from all the schools in Orange County went to the Citrus Bowl to play in the Mass Band.
They got there at 12:15 pm and immediately started practicing with a guest conductor. First, they practiced playing the song about two or three times; then went to a practice field to practice posture and performance drills.  By 2:00 pm, everyone was ready to play and made their way out to the stadium. They played and finished in about two minutes.  After that, the crowd cheered their approval and when the applause died away, they were dismissed. Â
The band played pretty well; only half the stadium was full though. It was still nerve racking, going up and playing in front of all of the hundreds of people.  We had been practicing the song for a couple of months now and it all paid off in the end.
