Boy Scouts Add “Video Game” Merit Badge?

On a list of new badges, the Boy Scouts added a ”Video Game” badge (AWESOME!!!) to their list in December.  The badge’s requirements include: playing a video game for an hour (hardest requirement ever) and even buying a new video game!  The badge is for the Cub Scouts (the stage before Boy Scouts) and they first have to go for the Belt Loop before going for the Academics pin (see above picture).

The Cub Scout program is basically preparing elementary students for the Boy Scouts. It teaches you to improve: character, fitness, and many other outdoor related activities.  The badge was meant to support and adapt to the constantly changing youth culture.

Cubscouts are always looking for new things that scouts would be interested in.  It’s kind of cool that the scouts are taking a new course, other than learning how to make outdoor knots and other skills.

Though a video game is a bit far off of their oath of being “Physically Strong,” I don’t think any one’s very mad about it .  The Boy Scouts are moving forward. Instead of outdoor activities, technology is becoming a large part of our culture.
